CANAVA ARGYROS (Cyclades, Greece)

Canava Argyros is a traditional family grower and negociant of Santorini which has been in business for over a hundred years. Their dry whites exhibit a distinctive style, and also to those familiar with Santorini an expression of Assyrtiko that properly belongs to the southern part of the island where they are based. Among the firm’s products is a range of lighter wines for everyday drinking under the brand name, Atlantis. To the serious drinker the name Argyros is almost synonymous with the finest aged Vinsanto, one of the truly great sweet wines of the world. This wine, aged 18 years in barrel and then a further 2 years in bottle before release, is produced in quantities (at around 5,000 bottles) far too small to satisfy demand. Due to this limited production, the immensely popular 1984 vintage was swiftly exhausted. Fortunately the 1986 vintage is now available.

Wine TypeArgyros Aidani 2004
It is a rare treat to have a wine from pure Aidani. The colour is very light, there are beautiful floral notes on the nose and excellent and refreshing acidity in the mouth.
