PAVLIDIS (Macedonia, Greece)

The Pavlidis estate, with vineyards on the red soils at the northern end of the Drama plain in eastern Macedonia, is one of the most exciting recent developments in Greek winemaking. The consultant oenologist is Angelos Iatridis (who runs his own Ktima Alpha at Amyndeon) and no expense has been spared in the search for quality. The estate is still under development (with, for example, 10 hectares of Agiorgitiko planted recently) but already produces about 80,000 bottles a year.

Wine TypePavlidis Estate White 2004
The excellent conditions of 2004 and the developing maturity of the vines have produced an excellent wine. The minerality of Assyrtiko and herbal notes of Sauvignon Blanc are harmoniously discernible on the nose and there is excellent balance in the mouth. The acidity helps a very clean and long finish.
