Peloponnese

The Peloponnese is the large four fingered peninsula at the southern end of the Greek mainland. The morphology of the Peloponnese is complex with a high central plateau (home to the fragrant varietal, Moschophilero) surrounded by mountains that are higher still. The mountain complexes create an enormous variety of altitudes, orientations and soil types which are reflected in the wines produced. Nemea, home of the Agiorgitiko grape and the most subtle red wines of southern Greece is in the north east Peloponnese. The north west is particularly famous for its sweet wines based on Mavrodaphne or on the local version of Muscat a petits grains. Our producers from the Peloponnese are Mercouri, Parparoussis and Tselepos.

Wine TypeTselepos Mantinia Barrel Aged 2004
Fermented and aged a few months in oak, this Mantinia takes a delicate bronze colour. The nose is very seductive with aromas of rose petal, rhubarb and quince. The flavours follow through nicely with a hint of toast on the finish. The oak is so well integrated it can not be separate from the wine.
